Crib Guardrail for a teether

So Lilly is clearly working on getting her teeth, although she is behind other babies her age, and I am not complaining.  I mean nursing and teeth means ouch, and I can wait.  Needless to say, she has started biting her crib when she is standing up, and before those little pearly whites come in and scratch our furniture, I decided to make a rail guard.  I used the bed skirt, because the crib is so low, there is no purpose for the skirt.  I took it apart, and made the railing for one side, and will be finishing the other soon.  I am using the other sides for a window valance. No more wasted bed skirt!  I think it turned out pretty cute.  I'm thinking something like this might be a good shower gift for other mommies to be.

Easter outfit

April is here!  What on earth? Where did the time go....

This coming Sunday is Easter, and I am so behind.  I would love to get Lilly an Easter basket, so hopefully I get that done this week.

I did at least make her dress forever ago, which was a blog I posted a while back and all I need to do is attach the straps.  The only thing is now that she is crawling up the wazzoooo, it is hard for her to wear dresses because she trips on the dress, so I made a little outfit that she can wear for the rest of the day.  Here is the onesie I made...yes I found the idea on pinterest.  I see pinterest as more of a bucket list of things I should try, so here it is.

I hope you all enjoy your Easter!

Lilly and mommy, we don't look a thing alike

For my baby shower, my mom gave me a picture of myself when I was around 6 months old in a dress that she absolutely loved.  She also gave me the dress that she had kept for more than 25 years for my daughter to wear some day.  I kept it in a box because I didn't want it to get ruined and almost forgot about it.  eek.  I did however want to get a photo of Lilly in it and frame both pictures on either side of a shadow box with the dress in it.  I also happened to find the same clip that was in my hair as well.  Unfortunately Lilly doesn't have much hair, but we made it work.  My mom said she looked for the bear and was certain she had kept it, but she had no luck finding it, so I used a different bear. And now, here are the pictures.

Me when I was somewhere around the age of 4-6 months.

It is obvious that Lilly gets her looks from her daddy. :)

Crawling, a view of the ladybug room, and a little love

Ok, so this has been a very eventful/busy week.  I am sorry I have not written on here...for my 3 readers.  All in all it has been great!  I last wrote about an interview that I had at work for a job that was supposed to be full time, but I had interest in the position as part time.  They wanted to still meet me, sooooo I went and interviewed, and they made an exception to accept me as part time/ weekends only!  I never would have thought they would, but I am so excited.  I am not sure that I posted a description but basically it is an office/technical position that serves as a liaison to help on-board every new hire that comes to the Disneyland Resort and hires into any park operations role.  They also assist in Cast Activity events and other miscellanious tasks that need to be done.

On the same day that I got the job, Lilly started scooting forward!  Although everyone said I was mean because I "teased" her to move....hey she kept crawling toward the strawberry I had on my plate.  She also has figured out to hold herself up in a standing position....she can't move, but she can stand.

We also went to Disneyland, and saw "The Vow" (not so good), met with both my parents, and Grant's, and just enjoyed each others company.

I also made a dress (a later post) because it is a gift, and thought about many different nursery ideas provided I have another baby.  I don't know why but I just have been in the idea mode lately.  Here are some of them....a birdy theme, but mixed with "Somewhere over the Rainbow"...all I have currently is the idea of neutral colors, and a quote on the wall that says "There's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby" and a mobile that plays over the rainbow with blue birds and rainbows.  I think part came from inspiration from Grant's cousin who said she had an Oz theme for her nursery, and the fact that somewhere over the rainbow, always calms Lilly down when she hears it.  Although I would only want it to be the beginning part of the movie, not all of Oz.  And my other idea was for a "tangled" theme...but only in a way...I would have a paper lantern mobile and paper lanterns in the sky, and a quote on the wall that says All at once, everything is different, now that I see you.  Even if there isn't much of a tangled theme or known that it the quote is from tangled, I thought it was perfect for a babies room...isn't that how mommy's feel when they first see their baby?  The quote is from the song "I see the light" here is a link to the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw6q5189kpc
Anyways, I know that I had posted pics of Lilly's room on Facebook, but this was the design for her room.  All ladybugs, which I had so much trouble finding, and now....of course, I see them everywhere.  Here are some pictures.  I recently moved her bumper, because first of all, bumpers are a no-no now days, although Lilly was fine when she was smaller, but now she pulls it down, Also, you couldn't see the bed skirt anyway, so it adds a little bit of ladybug flare to her room.

And finally, we ended with Valentine's Day, which we didn't truly have plans for anything, but Grant got Lilly a cute card that was bigger than her, and we went to dinner at Don Jose, one of our fave Mexican restaurants.

Waiting is the worst!

Well today I tooka break from crafting and caring to go to a job interview at work. It is for a position that helps inboard cast members at Disneyland and gives them the tools to succeed in their new roles that they are placed in. I would work with their managers during their first 120 days to make sure they are give them info that's needed for their job. I would also call before their first shift to make sure they understand where to go and meet them on their first day to introduce them to their trainer. Along with that, there are various other responsibilities that involve a lot of various tasks. I really hope I have the chance for the position. The only thing is I want a part time position and they are still unsure if they will be offering that or full time only. Overall I think my interview went well but I won't find out until the end of this week or early next week. Here's hoping!

Yay for productiveness!

Well this week has been quite a busy one...well not really, but it seemed busier.  Monday our little girl turned 6 months!!! How does this happen?  I know, I know people think "what are you going to say when she starts school, graduates, moves out, gets married, etc."  But I just cannot believe how time truly flies.  Along with a half birthday of course comes the dreaded doctor's appointment...for her that is.  I really think she is starting to be able to associate the order of procedures...check ears, nose, mouth, tummy, etc. and then THE SHOTS!   As soon as her ears were being checked she started crying, which if you know Lilly is not like her to cry about much. And then they came and went, and she cried, but got over it.  And along with that we finally got her social security card filed.  We still have yet to receive that, but at least we will be able to file taxes... yay for a baby credit.  We also had small group, fuel, and went to dinner with my parents.  And of course, I had to sew.  I just keep pinning things on pinterest, and I figure, what is the use if I don't actually do any of the things I pin.  Isn't that the point.  So...while digging through the box of get rid of clothes, which I need to stop digging through because I always pull something out, I found a shirt that Grant used to wear and was getting rid of.  So...or should I say sew, I made a t-shirt dress for Lillianne, or a dress from a shirt.  It turned out very cute, and then I tried it on her.. Why must I always make things harder than they seem?  I really wanted it to be tailored, but that was a silly idea because she is growing quickly, and I may have cut a little too much.

Then it was on the smaller than I wanted side, and gapping in the front.  So I added two panels that can be adjusted as she grows on the sides, a button closure on the back, and elastic in the front.  I still need to finish the bottom hem, but I think it turned out pretty cute. Here it is on Lillianne.  I think she may like it.

And here we are at Friday and I am so happy I don't have to work because I gave away my shift. I think leaving is going to get a lot harder because Lillianne is now realizing when I leave the room...ut o. Anyway, maybe I will use this evening to take a trip to hobby lobby for more fabric!

Half a year!

Today Lillianne is 6 months old!

I can't believe time has flown so fast. And it only seems to go by faster!  I could hardly wait to see her when I found out I was pregnant, and the pregnancy seemed to go forever....of course it did because they thought I was 9 weeks when apparently I was only 6 weeks, so more than halfway through they determined that my due date was July 25th rather than July 11th.  Then when the 11th came and passed, I still had hoped that the doctors were wrong.  But When the 25th came and went I could hardly stand it.  Everyday I felt like I was sitting on pins and needles and the day took forever.  Until finally, the 30th came along and the doctors said that's enough and we got to evict her, but not before one more ultrasound picture which was super exciting for me.  She had kissy lips and chubby cheeks.  And when we finally saw her for real it was amazing.  She has been a strong girl since she was little and in this time has learned to babble, click with her tongue, roll from front to back and back to front, sit up, hold a bottle, scoot backwards and so much more.  It has been so fun watching her grow this far.

Messy house...again

Hello again,
So after spending the week cleaning our condo to have friends over for our small group (very small, two couples, if you are looking for a small group come join), I decided I wanted to mess it up again.  Well really I just wanted to make something, so I pulled out all of my sewing stuff and made a dress ...and a mess.  I had a few really cute fat quarters that my grandma-in-law gave me and wanted to make something with them and didn't know if I had enough for a dress.  Then I had a book of very cute little patterns that I wanted to make, but they only had sizes 18 months and older, and they all took almost 2 yards of fabric which I didn't have.  So....I chucked the book and gave it a shot making the dress without a pattern.  I measured Lilly around the chest and it was 18 inches.  I guestimated based on the sizes that the 18 month and 24 month measurements were and added a couple of inches for a 20 inch chest measurement in hopes that this would be the size she would wear in April.  It seems to fit the measurements I found on her 12 month clothing.  Then I basically cut rectangles...2 skirts, and 2 tops, and then a strip, sewed it together and voila...a dress.

It really wasn't too hard, and I want to make more for my shop...I just need to figure out real sizes for people who, when they purchase something, want real sizes...not just o well it might fit in a few months, :)  So needless to say my husband said my sewing takes over the whole house, and my resolution to the problem...buy a bigger house, one with more rooms...not just for another kid in the future, but for a sewing room.  A girl can dream... right?

ps I will not show a picture of my messy house :)

Tiny Toes in Napa!!!

I don't know if I mentioned, my shoes are selling in a gift shop at the Napa River Inn in Napa, California.  So...if you are getting your wine on, be sure to check them out.  It was such a fluke.  As some of you may know I turned my hobby into business just after Lillianne was born, in hopes that I could make a little bit of money to justify staying home with her.  It has been a slow start, but who cares!  I am having fun.  I have made many little shoes and bows and always dressed Lilly in them.  Well, I had several people while out and about who told me I should sell the shoes especially, because they were cute, cloth, reversible, and well...cute.  Kelly McD and Ashley McD along with Kathy O. really encouraged me to give it a shot while we were at our women's retreat.  So....I did it. I opened a little shop on Facebook.  When Sara my friend who lives in Napa saw them, (her hubby's family owns a winery, Mckenzie-Mueller, check it out) she wanted to buy some for her soon to be nephew.  Then she showed everyone at work and the rest is history.  Here they are on the cute little shelf.

There are only 4 pairs because she already sold a pair. :)  woohoo!  I know it isn't that many, but it is a trial.  Here is a picture of the pair that sold.

And the 4 that are there.

Needless to say I am excited whether or not they sell. But if they do, I better get crackin'!  O, I think I forgot to mention.  The lady who owns the gift shop only sells stuff hand-crafted in California.  So be sure to check it out if you visit. The name of the gift shop is Amelia's.

Almost a thief!

Well today was a lazy day, but I was mostly working on trying to get some orders for my little business Pretty Bows and Tiny Toes.  Speaking of which, some people have asked to post some pictures.  So here we go.  This was one of the pairs I was working on today.

Because my little one was being a pistol, and taking short naps, I did not get very far.  Well I finished the pair.  I also have an outfit, and two more pairs of shoes to make up and then I would like to start making some more clothes from a lovely pattern book I received for my birthday.  I was going to work on some more, but my mom called and invited Grant and I to dinner and then wanted to go to Carters to buy clothes for her grand-daughter to which of course we said we would like to go.  While there, I loved some of the clothes myself and was set on buying them until...my hubby decided he and my dad wanted to go to Starbucks, and make me out to be a thief.  We are lucky we are all not in jail, jk.  Anyhow the store ladies must have thought we were shady for sure because I had several outfits on the stroller and my husband when he wanted starbucks strolled out of the shop, clothes and all.  The ladies didn't even notice...shame on them, however being the good person I am I went to grab them all so I could pay for them...with a check (how ancient am I) and realized I also did not have my ID....eek.

So now that I am not going to be arrested, I will be working on some shoes and outfits tonight.  And more pictures will be to come.

I do have a little shop on facebook, but my website (not on facebook) has closed because I still am getting started and it was too expensive to keep paying the service for the domain and software for a shop.  I will be looking into etsy for those of you wondering.  And thank you Justine for suggesting a little shop in Long Beach.  I will be looking into selling some stuff there.

Well here we are!

ok so I finally broke down and got myself a Blog! Heaven knows I am no good at keeping journals in person but I figured I would give the cyber world a shot. I mean why not write for the whole world right? Sounds perfectly safe to me, although my parents might think there is a conspiracy. Needless to say I mainly did this for family, friends, myself, and my precious Lilly to time stamp our milestones without having to post it for everyone who doesn't truly care on Facebook.

So we will start with the simple things. The blog name. Simple, ya right. I wanted to have the perfect name, probably not so perfect, but how does anyone come up with the perfect name. I was going to use our name miller. And go with the whole miller life idea but I decided I do not want a blog post that resembles a beer slogan to represent my family, although many of you may enjoy beer, it just wasn't for us. So then I thought how about a bouquet. I am not sure that many realize that our little girls name was decided because of the meaning. my husband Grant sharing the name of a president, and my name heather being a flower decided that perhaps we would name a boy a presidents name and a girl a flower name. When we found out girl it was, we fell in love with the name Lillianne because it means flower and her middle name Hadley because it means field of Heather or from the field where heather grows. How perfect! So bouquet was my next thought, but bouquet is such a yucky fancy word. I wanted something simple. A field. I was going to call it field of flowers, but who knew Field of Flowers is a band. So why not go with the word that this family has brought? Joy. A field of joy it is.
